INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Psychology has evolved through years of research and conversation, increasingly embracing the connection between a healthy mind and body. I am excited to share what this work has taught us and to consider the experiences that have led you to this moment and the adventure within.
General Practice: Anxiety, depression, major life transitions, empowerment, coping skills, grief, stress, self-acceptance, and co-dependency.
Special Interest Areas: PTSD, survivors of spiritual trauma, sexual trauma, childhood trauma, and body image issues.
Treatment Methods: EMDR, ecotherapy, mindfulness, imagery, interpersonal psychotherapy, trauma-informed safety, somatic sensing, and cognitive behavioral theory.
Individual therapy sessions are available virtually and in person. Virtual sessions are offered at my discretion and within the limits of my licensure, using a HIPAA-compliant platform.
TRAUMA RESOLUTION
Taking the journey within
We will begin the adventure anew by finding the traumatic messages that may be silently directing you, exploring the experiences that created them, and working toward healing and new messages such as, “you are loved,” “you know who you are,” and “you can trust yourself.”
The map I use is the three phases of trauma treatment: stabilization, reprocessing, and integration.
Stabilization
Stabilization begins with learning about trauma and its effects on the brain and body, while practicing skills to help steady the nervous system. We may discuss self-compassion, safety, dissociation, mindfulness, protective mechanisms, shame, and coping skills.
Reprocessing
Reprocessing is the journey into yourself. I use EMDR, a trauma treatment modality centered on the idea that the brain and body know how to heal. We work with both the brain’s and body’s reactions to trauma activation.
Integration
Integration focuses on bringing trauma experiences into everyday life so that memories and messages from the past are no longer “the” event of your life, but part of the adventure you choose to live. The thoughts and feelings from the past may remain, but they no longer have to control your life.
NATURE THERAPY
Experiencing awe again
Essential to a good adventure is a sense of awe—an elemental feeling of wonder that simultaneously grounds and elevates. Our connection with the natural world can become disrupted, and through reconnecting, we can grow.
I offer three ways to connect with the natural world within a therapeutic relationship: walk-and-talk therapy, connection walks, and community connection walks.
Walk-and-Talk Therapy
Walking therapy combines the benefits of being outdoors with movement. Sessions take place at various parks in the area and last one hour.
Connection Walks
With roots in forest bathing and counseling theory, connection walks aim to develop personal insight in and with the natural world. Talk-and-walk sessions are also available.
Community Connection Walks
Community Connection Walks emphasize stress relief and offer an opportunity to connect with others in a natural setting. Walks are held in areas local to the Upstate and may be offered as a stand-alone service or in conjunction with other offerings.
