exploring together

I have worked in the mental health field for 20 years and after hundreds and hundreds of hours talking about the complexities of life, I say that being a human is often hard. It is a big task, and even though it is hard, we are not wired to do it alone.

The best thing about seeing a therapist is that it you can express your thoughts and feelings without worry of them being taken personally. The boundaries of the therapeutic relationship allow for co-creation of a space of acceptance and understanding. This space, and the relationship that grows, is the main vehicle for change. This co-creation is called interpersonal psychotherapy.

I have worked in a variety of roles and settings, with people as they struggle with a variety of hards, including disempowerment, grief, life transitions, co-dependency, stress management, severe chronic mental illness, addiction, housing insecurity, eating disorders and self-harm. I have helped people recover from physical, spiritual, relationship and sexual abuse, as well as developmental trauma.

To help, I use the tools of EMDR, yoga, meditation and mindfulness, nature therapy, imagery, trauma informed safety, and group therapy to encourage change, or acceptance, where needed.

Through these years and hundreds and hundreds of hours, I have learned that even though being a human can be hard, there is always a way back to ourselves and ultimately, back to the life we love.
