TRAUMA RESOLUTION
TRAUMA RESOLUTION
taking the journey within
stabilization, reprocessing, and integration
We will begin the adventure anew and find the traumatic messages that are silently directing you, find the experiences that created them, and heal. We will work to create new messages, ones that say things like, “you are loved” or “you know who you are” or “you can trust yourself”.
IMAGINE THE ADVENTURE THEN!
The map I use is the three phases of trauma treatment: stabilization, reprocessing, and integration.
No matter where you are on your journey, we will find you in one of these spots.
– Jean-Paul Sartre
Stabilization
Stabilization just means that things have become a bit off balance and need to be steadied again. Starting here means gathering knowledge about trauma, the effects of trauma on your brain and body, and practicing skills that will steady your nervous system again. We will spend time discussing self-compassion, safety, disassociation, mindfulness, protective mechanisms, shame, and coping skills. Good adventures start with an itinerary and a well packed bag, so this is where we start with therapy as well.
Reprocessing
Reprocessing, the second phase of trauma treatment, is the journey into yourself. Like all journeys, there can be unexpected twists, and packing well in the stabilization phase helps. I use EMDR to travel this journey. EMDR is a trauma treatment modality centered on the idea that your brain and body know how to heal in the best way possible; therefore, we will work with both the brain’s and the body’s reactions to trauma activation.
Integration
In integration, we are working to integrate your trauma experiences into everyday life, so that the memories and messages received long ago are no longer “the” event of your life, but rather an experience that becomes a part of the adventure that you choose to live. Living and choosing your adventure does not mean that the thoughts and feelings from the past are gone, but rather you are able to live without the control of events from the past.
