ECO THERAPY
ECO THERAPY
experiencing awe again
in person sessions
When our trauma stories become our map, not only do we lose our way, but we lose our sense of awe. Whether it is an astounding experience, like standing at the edge of the Grand Canyon, or an everyday experience, like hearing breeze rustle in the ears, awe is that elemental feeling of wonder that simultaneously grounds and elevates. Studies are showing that the wonder and awe that is found in nature relieves depression, combats symptoms of PTSD, and decreases inflammation. Nature is an integral part of our adventure.
BUT… LIKE IN ANY RELATIONSHIP
our relationship with the natural world can get disrupted or feel unsafe, and we lose a vital connection. Like family therapy aims to stitch back together the frayed edges of family relationships, nature therapy does the same… just that the family is the trees, ground, animals, and sky. In family therapy when we are connected again, we learn more about ourselves just by loving another; and it is the same for the natural world too. When we become connected again with the family outside, we become more connected to ourselves and our communities.

Therapeutic Gardening
Therapeutic gardening sessions are focused on the way that humans grow and expand, which is mirrored in the process of growing plants. Sessions take place at the community garden at the Pavilion Recreation Complex in Taylors. Sessions are offered as a stand alone service, or in conjunction with other offerings.
Intention Walks
In an individual setting, I prefer to call these walks, “therapeutic meanderings,” where the trail leads to decreased stress, improved mood, decreased inflammation, and a greater sense of connection to the world around you. With roots in forest bathing, known in Japan as Shinrin-Yoku, our intentional meanderings will be held in areas local to the Upstate. These can be offered as a stand alone service, or in conjunction with Individual Therapy and Trauma Processing. In a group setting, I offer Community Stress Relief Walks. The emphasis on these walks is primarily stress relief.
Green Therapy
Green therapy is the practical application of Eco Psychology. First coined in 1992, Eco Psychology merges Psychology and Ecology and focuses on the emotional connections between humans and the natural world and how those connections contribute to a fully present and authentic life. I interweave aspects of the natural world in both individual therapy and trauma resolution, as nature offers a wonderful blueprint for healing.
