exploring the journey together

My professional path has been an adventure and I marvel at the twists and turns I have taken to come to this point. After completing graduate school at Clemson, I began my career in community mental health in various agencies. I worked as a counselor, a case manager, a group leader, a group developer, an addictions coach, and a crisis manager and learned to serve individuals with severe and chronic mental illness and addictions, as well as the homeless population. I also learned invaluable skills in a residential treatment facility for pre-teens and adolescents with behavioral diagnoses and on a college campus as a counselor. In private practice, I worked with individuals who struggled with eating disorders and body image, adolescent issues and self harm, and recovery from addictive and compulsive behaviors. This path led me directly to learning about the buried effects of trauma on the brain and body. I have come to believe that our trauma stories are the source of our struggles with ourselves and the world. I use EMDR in conjunction with interpersonal therapy, eco therapy, mindfulness, body awareness, and a trauma informed safety approach to facilitate an individualized approach to rewriting those trauma stories.
